Delaware Disc Golfers (DDG) Ladder Challenge (Tag) Rules

1.Start of the Ladder/Tag challenge: The year begins and ends with the Camp Tockwogh (or equivalent) tournament (or a non home course) in early April (usually). That’s when new Tags will be issued and old Tags become obsolete. (There are only 115 men’s and 14 Ladies Tags and when they are gone, they’re gone!!) Tockwogh is used, because we try and make it no ones home course and has a little of everything (fairways are long, short, wide, and tight with some nasty rough that needs to be avoided).
2.Tag challenge rule: During casual or tournament play with other Delaware Tag holder(s), means the challenge is on. No excuses (for example “I didn’t get enough sleep last night, whaagh”)
3.Kelly half stroke rule: The lower Tag holder has to be beaten, not tied. Ties give the lower Tag holder a half stroke advantage. This rule only applies to Tag possession and not to tournament scores.
4.Forgetting your Tag (Fudd) rule: Is forgivable, as long as it doesn’t become a habit. (Why you don’t keep it in/on your bag or key chain still puzzles me). Habitually forgetting your Tag is poor sportsmanship and grounds for disciplinary action, to be determined by DDG consensus. Why get into the ladder challenge at all, if you leave your Tag at home all the time?
5.Leaving early rule: Having to leave a Tag challenge round or tournament (before everyone comes in) for whatever reason, means you get the high Tag. Leaving because you’re having a bad round is poor sportsmanship and is subject to disciplinary action, to be determined by DDG consensus. (Everyone has a bad day once in awhile, suck it up, and take the high Tag, like a real man)
a.Exception: If you have to leave do to an “emergency” or an “injury” to be determined by a group vote.
b.a.   Footnote: Leaving a tournament before the Tags are sorted will give you the high Tag.
6.Hiding with low Tags: This is not a rule, but a philosophy. Tags only mean something if you defend them. This is not only poor sportsmanship, but also a reflection of your own insecurity and poor character (it’s only a Tag). We know who/what you are and what’s worse, you know who/what you are. Tags are only a way to make the round more interesting and are not to be coveted.
7.Being late: Coming late to an established Tag round (for example, the 11:30 lunch round) is rude and disrupts the flow of the round. The group may vote whether to allowed you in the challenge and if you are allowed, then you take the high score up to that point.
a.Exception: Unless your excuse is legitimate. For example, traffic or work related problems. Laziness is never an excuse!!.
8.Cost of Tags: Men and Women Tags are $10. However, women can also get into the men’s challenge for an extra $5. As to not discriminate, the men can get into the ladies challenge, but only if they wear a dress during all Tag challenges and must be referred to as Rosie for the entire year and pay an extra $50  (Rene` Richards tax).
a.Exception: January 2nd Tags will be reduced to $5, unless it’s a lost Tag replacement, in which case see “rule 9” below.
9.Lost Tags: Since there is only a limited number of Tags (see rule one) the following rule will be in effect. First offense will be $10, second offense $15, three times and you’re out of the challenge for the rest of the year.
a.Reminder: Tags are one of a kind and can’t be replaced!!
10.Bagger Tag holders: Anyone who has or wants a Tag and hasn’t played in any Delaware tournaments during the year, will be issued a high Tag at Tockwogh. If you want a better Tag, come to our many tournaments or challenge and beat somebody. These are Tags for our “ladder challenge” and not souvenirs.
11.Two-meter rule: Will not be in effect for TAG play after 2005. However, it’s up to the TD for tournament play.
